Garden River First Nation has recently experienced cannabis dispensary raids even as their band council was attempting to draft by-laws through consultation with Bimaadzwin Consulting.
Many band members oppose this consultation process and were eager to voice their concerns at a band council meeting last night only to arrive and find that the meeting had been cancelled.
There will be a community meeting this evening at 5:30pm at the Community Centre at 7 Shinawauk Street, Garden River. Constitutional expert Del Riley will be on hand to discuss the rights that indigenous people have to cultivate and sell cannabis.
